WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.—At the Spring Fling Tournament in sunny West Palm Beach, the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (3-2) used a 7-1 second half run to slam the door in a 16-11 victory over Concordia University (Wis.) (4-1) on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman midfielder Michaela Cole (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) scored her first four collegiate goals to lead the Bears. Potsdam sophomore attack Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) added three goals and an assist, while junior captain Margaret Wall (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas) also had a four-point day with two goals and two helpers.

The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 7:20 on tallies from Wall, McClusky and Cole. The Falcons answered with a 5-1 stretch to grab a 5-4 advantage at the 13:08 mark. Potsdam's lone goal during the run came from freshman attack Katie Lapinski (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) with an assist from Wall. The Bears responded with a 5-2 run to close the half with a 9-7 lead. The markers came from Wall, Cole, McClusky, senior attack Michelle Varney (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) and junior midfielder Katie Putnam (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittanango). Junior attack Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) assisted on Varney's goal and Wall set up Putnam's score.

Concordia grabbed a 10-9 lead with 24:50 left in the contest on three straight goals, but Potsdam overpowered the Falcons the rest of the way. Weigel started the 7-1 finish with a goal at 21:36. Cole buried the next two attempts, including the eventual game-winner at 19:36, for a 12-10 lead. Junior midfielder Emily Petit (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) scored five minutes later and freshman midfielder Alyssa Ferenczy (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) netted her first career goal at 9:05. Concordia got one back nearly three minutes later, but it barely slowed Potsdam's momentum. McClusky and Weigel scored two final goals over the last 4:14 to seal the 16-11 win.

Freshman and current SUNYAC Goalie of the Week Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) made six saves to earn her second career win in as many starts. Falcon goalie Veronika Metanova finished with 14 stops in the loss.

Sammi Reiter led Concordia with a game-high six points on five goals and an assist. Haley Peppers and Emily Heckendorf also chipped in three and two goals, respectively to support the Falcon cause.

Potsdam outshot Concordia 38-22 on the afternoon, but the Falcons edged the Bears 20-18 in ground balls.

Potsdam is back in action in West Palm Beach on Thursday, when the Bears face the RIT Tigers at 11:30 a.m.
