POTSDAM, N.Y.—Junior attack Rachael Huntley (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) recorded a career-high six points and senior captain Murphy Newman (Canton, N.Y./Berkshire School) scored five goals as the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (1-2) rolled over the Sage Colleges (0-1) 17-1 on a windy Wednesday afternoon. Senior captain Katie Lapinski (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) matched her career-high with five points on a goal and four assists and sophomore goalie Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) made five saves for her first career victory.

The Bears opened the contest with a 10-0 run and took the same lead into the half. Newman had three goals in the first 30 minutes. Freshman defender Kayla McCabe (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) scored her first career goal during the run and freshman attack Ashley Burrows (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) netted her first two. Huntley had two goals and an assist in the half and senior defender Alyssa Ferenczy (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) and junior attack Morgan Cook (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) accounted for the other two goals. Lapinski had two goals by the break. Longamore had just two saves in the half, but both came on free-position attempts.

Gators senior attack Monica Korulus (Verbank, N.Y./Milbrook) claimed the first draw control of the final period and finally solved Longamore at 29:12. Potsdam quickly regained control of the contest and wrapped up the game with a 7-0 run. Huntley and Newman each added two more markers. Lapinski notched her goal and added a final helper. Freshman attack Alli Stark (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) recorded her first career goal on an assist from Huntley and sophomore defender Meaghan Paige (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) buried her first of the year with 4:01 left to close the scoring. Longamore stopped three more shots, including a final free position.

Sage senior goalie Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) finished with 17 saves on the day.

Potsdam outshot the Gators 27-10, collected 19 ground balls to Sage's nine and finished with a 13-7 advantage in draw controls. Newman totaled a game-high five draw controls on the day.

The one goal allowed ties the program mark with a 20-1 victory over King's College exactly seven years ago in Orlando, Fla.

The Bears head to Patchogue this Sunday for a noon contest in the second ever meeting with St. Joseph's College of Long Island.
