POTSDAM, N.Y.—Three different Bears scored as the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (2-2-1) defeated SUNY Canton (2-3) 3-1 at Maxcy Ice Arena on Tuesday night. Sophomore forward Brenna Wilson (Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators), junior forward Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) and sophomore forward Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy) each lit the lamp for Potsdam and senior assistant captain Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./North Country Ice Storm) stopped 20 shots for the win.

The Bears opened the final period with a power play. The Kangaroos came out of the gate aggressive, outshooting Potsdam 5-1 over the first seven minutes. However, it was Wilson getting the Bears on the board first at 7:24 with an assist from Bertin. From that point on it was all Potsdam. The Bears bombarded Canton and goalie Illie Berisha (Lake Ariel, Pa./New Jersey Rockets) 11- 1 the rest of the period. Despite the momentum, the score was still 1-0 at the first intermission.

The Bears started the second period with five seconds of power play and senior captain Sally Mooney (Columbus, Ohio/Wyoming Seminary) rang the post. The Roos answered with good pressure, firing four shots on Tardelli, but the goalie handled each attempt. Just over seven minutes into the middle stanza, junior assistant captain Kaylen Van Wagner (Red Hook, N.Y./Hotchkiss Prep) dumped the puck into Canton's zone. Ott picked it up, looped around the net and stuffed it between the post and Berisha's left pad. Late in the period, Canton went on a 41-second five-on-three power play. The Roos created two strong scoring chances and moved the puck well, but Tardelli and Potsdam's defense kept them frustrated. The Bears' offense answered with chances of their own. With 44 seconds left on the clock, Berisha robbed Potsdam freshman defenseman Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Honeybaked) on a slap shot from the slot. The score was still 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Though they didn't extend the lead, they gained momentum and pinned Canton in its end with an 8-2 shot advantage over the first six minutes. The pressure paid off and Bertin struck at 8:27 with assists from junior forward Amanda Peterson (West Chazy, N.Y./Chazy Flyers) and Van Wagner to make it 3-0. Shortly after the goal, Potsdam was whistled for hooking. The Bears killed off the penalty, but Canton broke up the shutout as junior defenseman Sydney Kinder (New York, N.Y./Manhattanville Valiants) beat a screened Tardelli with a high shot from the top of the left circle at 11:32. Freshman defenseman Reagan Lynn (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Fury) and freshman forward Logan Conger (Tyedinaga, Ontario/Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves) each assisted on the play. Potsdam stopped the comeback attempt as Canton didn't get another shot after the tally.

Berisha finished with 34 saves as Potsdam outshot the Roos 37-21 on the night. Canton was 0-for-3 on the power play and the Bears were 0-for-2.

Next, Potsdam makes its first ever trip to Geneva to face William Smith this weekend. The Bears face the Herons at 4 p.m. on Saturday and the same time on Sunday.
