Bears cross country competes at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam cross country teams ran at Oswego State this morning. The men finished 12th at the Don Masterson Invitational and the women finished 11th at the Pat Peterson Invitational. The University of Rochester captured the men's race, while RIT won the women's competition.

Freshman Ben Shelton (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) led the Bears' men with an 8k time of 28:34. Junior Kevin Johnson (Camden, N.Y./Camden) and freshman Devin FitzGerald (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) were next with times of 28:52 and 30:14. Freshman Anthony Perri (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) posted a time of 31.24 in his Potsdam debut and sophomore Ryan Sullivan (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) was just five seconds behind him. Freshman Christopher Cruz (Albany, N.Y./Albany) and senior Joseph Rafter (Fort Covington, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) rounded out the competition for the men with times of 32:55 and 33:08.

Reigning SUNYAC Runner of the Week, senior Hannah Groshner (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) paced the Potsdam women with a 5K time of 20:02, 58 seconds faster than her winning time from the week before. Freshman Sam Tavares (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fiorello LaGuardia) and junior Olivia Rehm (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) crossed the finish line a second apart with times of 21:40 and 21:41. Sophomore Sarah LaPorta (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem East) and junior Carissa Cuccia (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) were next at 22:51 and 24:22. Sophomore Miriam Cisse (Manhattan, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph) had a time of 25:04 and freshman Nina Purkiss (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) closed the day with a time of 25:33.

The Bears are back in action on Sept. 27, when they head to Canton to run in the St. Lawrence University Hoffman Invitational.
