POTSDAM, N.Y.- Timely foul shooting by SUNY Oneonta (13-7, 8-5 SUNYAC) holds off SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-19, 0-13) by taking the 67-54 victory over the Bears Saturday afternoon. Senior guard Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y./Indian Lake) finished with 17 points to lead the Bears and Cara Adams tallied 20 points for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta opened the game with a 19-8 run that extended just over the first seven minutes of the half. It was capped by a 3-pointer from Tyra Harrison and sophomore forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) followed it with a three of her own to get the Red Dragons' lead down to eight. In the remaining minutes of the first half, the teams matched up well. Senior guard Colleen McNamara (Guelph, Ontario/Our Lady of Lourdes) and Reynolds both hit from behind the arch, but Potsdam couldn't gain any ground on Oneonta. The Red Dragons took the 31-23 lead into the locker room.

Junior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) and Reynolds combined for the first 10 points for the Bears. At 16:58, Reynolds 3-pointer got Oneonta's lead down to three points, but the Red Dragons wasted no time. A Sarah Longto layup and another by Cara Adams got their lead to seven. Sophomore guard Meghan Driscoll (Troy, N.Y./Troy), LaVoie and Reynolds each knocked down a three and Reynolds added two free throws to put the pressure on Oneonta. Its lead was down to four with 7:53 remaining on the clock. The Red Dragons chipped away to get their lead up to double digits with 35-seconds on the clock by going 12-for-12 from the line. Oneonta held on to take the 67-54 win.

The Bears shot 42-percent from the field, while the Red Dragons finished shooting 39-percent and 15-for-16 from the free throw line.

LaVoie finished with 15 points and senior forward Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) tacked on seven points and seven boards. Driscoll also added seven points for the Bears.

Caysea Cohen added 13 points to the Red Dragons total and Jillian Davis finished with nine.

The Bears will finish out their conference road games next weekend when Potsdam travels to Oswego State Friday to take on the Lakers at 7:30 p.m. and SUNY Cortland Saturday at 4 p.m. to face the Red Dragons.
