POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Plattsburgh (11-12, 8-8 SUNYAC) holds off SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-22, 0-16 SUNYAC) to take 64-47 victory Tuesday night at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. Senior captain Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y./Indian Lake) led the Bears with 18 points, while senior guard Brittany Marshall (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy), junior guard Allie Taylor (Hannibal, N.Y./Hannibal Central) and sophomore guard Shanielle Chambers (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) each finished with 12 points. Taylor recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds to add to her 12 points. The Bears wore pink jerseys for their annual Play 4Kay game, which raises money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

At 18:39, junior forward Devona Paul (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee) put the Cardinals on the board to open the scoring. Senior forward Veronica Sapp (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) answered with a layup, but was followed by a fast break layup from Taylor. Sapp knocked down a jumper at 15:55 to tie the game before Paul hit another layup to take the lead that was never again relinquished. Plattsburgh's offense hit its stride over the next 16 minutes to take the 36-14 lead into halftime.

Potsdam went on a 12-7 run to start the second half that was capped by a jumper from sophomore forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) at 14:14. Chambers answered by draining a 3-pointer to start a 10-3 run that ended with a layup from sophomore forward Jessica Dolan (Orangeburg, N.Y./Pearl River) to bring the score to 53-29. The Bears finished out the half with an 18-11 run, but it was too little, too late for Potsdam and Plattsburgh took the 64-47 win. Reynolds scored 13 of her 18 points during the second half, while the Bears outscored the Cardinals 33-28.

Senior forward Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) finished with nine points and 11 rebounds, just short of another double-double and senior guard Colleen McNamara (Guelph, Ontario/Our Lady of Lourdes) added six points. Paul finished with nine points and six rebounds to add to the Cardinals totals, while Dolan recorded eights points.

The Bears are back in action this weekend as they take on SUNY Geneseo Friday at 7:30 p.m. and College at Brockport Saturday at 4 p.m.
