BROCKPORT, N.Y.—A strong second half lifted the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (4-6, 1-3 SUNYAC) to an 81-67 road victory over SUNY Brockport (4-6, 2-2 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman forward Devyn Elliot (Bronx, N.Y. /Cardinal Spellman) led all scorers with 22 points to go along with 15 rebounds. Freshman guard Dyamon Hunter (Bronx, N.Y. /Thurgood Marshall Academy) was next in scoring with 19 points. Sophomore center Naya Walters (Bronx, N.Y. /Women's Academy of Excellence) had another double-double, recording 16 points and 15 boards.

The Bears scoring primarily came from the inside to start off the game, as Walters and Elliott each made back-to-back layups early in the first. The Eagles responded with paint points of their own, as Julianna Taylor scored the last four points of the quarter. The Bears led 20-17 after 10 minutes.

Brockport took their first lead of the game midway through the second quarter after a basket inside and the foul by Emily Nester. A 3-pointer from behind the arc by Taylor extended the lead to 31-27 at 5:31 and Potsdam called a timeout. After play resumed, Zaria McCullough hit a jumper with contact as the shot clock expired, sending her to the line for a three-point play. On the wrong side of a 14-4 run, Potsdam struggled to answer back as the lead swelled to double-digits. The Eagles went into the second half with a comfortable 42-32 lead over the Bears.

Potsdam's offense came back to life in the third quarter and the Bears were able to get back into the game. The Bears cut the lead to seven after a layup by Hunter, but Brockport answered instantly with Pratt Bailey's 3-pointer. Following the three, the Bears responded with an 13-4 run that was capped off with a shot inside and then a jumper by Walters. Potsdam's late quarter burst brought them to within 53-52 with 10 minutes to play.

The Bears momentum carried on over to the final period, starting it off with a 7-0 run. After senior guard Riley Luckie (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) made a layup followed by a 3-pointer, the Bears led by six, 59-53, with 8:22 left. Much like the Bears in the second period, the Eagles were unable to respond to the run by Potsdam. With a little over two minutes left, Hunter made the contact layup and was sent to the free throw line , extending the lead to nine. Potsdam went on to win 81-67.

Taylor Julianna and Emily Nestler finished with 15 points each for the Knights. Bailey Pratt had 11.

Potsdam shot efficient 48.1 percent from the field, while Brockport shot 31.9 percent. Potsdam also won the rebound battle 51-31.

The contest was marked the first time in nearly five years that the Bears reached the 80-point plateau. The victory was also Potsdam's first conference road win in nearly five years as well.

Potsdam will now have a month off until they take on Plattsburgh on the road on January 8, 2019.
