Brockport, N.Y—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (11-15, 4-5 SUNYAC) defeated Buffalo State (3-24, 0-8 SUNYAC) 3-0 and SUNY Cortland (10-16, 3-6 SUNYAC) 3-2 on the final day of SUNYAC pool play in Brockport. With the set of victories, the Bears have made SUNYAC playoffs for the first time in five years.

Potsdam handled the Bengals 25-18, 25-20 and 25-18 for the sweep. Sophomore outside hitter Gabby Scott (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) led the Bears with 11 kills and tacked on 13 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) had 10 kills with three aces, and sophomore outside hitter Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) finished with nine kills and a season-high six aces. Freshman outside hitter Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) had five kills and a block, while junior libero Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) led Potsdam with 23 digs. Senior setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) led the Bears with 34 assists and tallied eight digs.

Potsdam fought Cortland in a close five set victory. The Bears took the first two sets 26-24 before the Red Dragons took the next to 25-22 and 32-30. Potsdam got out to an early 8-3 lead in the fifth set only for Cortland to come back and tie it at 11. The game continued to go back and forth before the Bears took the final two points for a 16-14 victory. Scott led Potsdam offensively with 17 kills and contributed defensively with 15 digs. Mack had 13 kills and an ace, while Hansen had 12 kills and three aces. Price also finished with eight kills. Magallon led the Bears with 45 digs and Rodda led with 45 assists, four aces, and added 10 digs to end the day.

The Bears return to action Tuesday when they host Clarkson at 7 p.m. at the Maxcy Field House.

On Tuesday, October 30, Potsdam will travel to Fredonia for the SUNYAC quarterfinals.
