Bears Volleyball falls to Saints, blank Wolves on Day 1 of North Country Invite

POTSDAM, N.Y.—After falling 3-1 to St. Lawrence University (6-0), the SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (3-2) rebounded to sweep Keuka College (1-5) 3-0 on as it hosted Day 1 of the North Country Invitational.

Against St. Lawrence in the opener, the Bears fell behind 2-0 on 25-22 and 25-20 decisions in the first two sets. Potsdam rebounded with a 26-24 win in set three before the Saints claimed the 25-18 victory in set four to wrap up the match. Senior captain Kelsey Healis (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) had nine kills, eight digs and two blocks. Freshman outside hitter Anika Anderson (Honolulu, Hawaii/Radford) recorded nine kills and a game-high five aces. Junior captain Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) notched 31 assists and 10 digs and junior libero Maddie Kaplan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) added 13 digs.

After a tight 25-22 first set with the Wolves, the Bears rolled through Keuka in sets two and three by scores of 25-7 and 25-12. Senior outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) totaled six kills and five blocks. Healis had five kills, five aces and six digs. Freshman middle hitter Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) posted six kills and three blocks and Rodda capped her day with 23 assists.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow when they host SUNY Canton at 11 a.m. and then head to Clarkson for a 4 p.m. matchup.
