Bears Volleyball falls to Hawks, Blue Knights on second day of SUNYAC Pool Play

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.— The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (7-7, 1-2 SUNYAC) fell 3-0 to both the SUNY New Paltz Hawks (8-7, 2-1) and SUNY Geneseo Blue Knights (10-4, 3-0 SUNYAC), on Day 2 of SUNYAC Pool Play at Plattsburgh on Saturday.

The Hawks downed the Bears 25-7, 25-20, 25-16 in the first match of the day. Senior captain Kelsea Healis (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) had four kills, 10 digs and one block, while junior captain Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) added 10 assists and six digs. Freshman opposite Cierra Farnschlader (Palm Bay, Fla./Palm Bay Magnet) totaled two kills and two blocks and senior captain Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) registered nine digs, two kills and an assist.

The Blue Knights took 25-14, 28-26, and 25-22 victories from the Bears. Senior outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) led the team with 10 kills. Healis contributed eight kills and two aces, while Rodda had 32 assists, three aces, and nine digs. Junior defensive specialist Maddie Kaplan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) totaled 12 digs and two aces. Topf finished with 10 digs and six kills.

The Bears are back in action at the St. Lawrence-Canton Classic on September 29, at 4 p.m. against St. Lawrence University. On Saturday, they face Cazenovia at 1 p.m. and Wells at 3 p.m.
