CORTLAND, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (6-17, 0-6 SUNYAC) fell to SUNY Geneseo (17-4, 4-2) and Fredonia State (18-7, 6-0) by identical 3-0 scores on the final day of SUNYAC Pool Play at SUNY Cortland today.
In the early game, the Blue Knights captured 25-16, 25-20 and 25-16 set victories. Junior outside hitter Chelsea Sunday (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) led the Bears' offense with seven kills to go with her team-high 11 digs. Graduate student outside hitter Annie Smith (Chateauguay, N.Y./Chateauguay) and senior outside hitter Tia Wright (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) contributed four kills apiece. Freshman setter Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) finished with 13 assists.
Against Fredonia, the Blue Devils won three consecutive sets by 25-13, 25-15 and 25-21 scores. Senior outside hitter Liza Fields (Duanesburg, N.Y./Duanesburg) recorded a team-high seven kills and added seven digs. Smith had six kills, while Topf matched her first-game total of 13 assists. Senior libero Gabby Arana (Williston Park, N.Y./Herricks) finished with a season-high 28 digs.
The Bears are now off until Oct. 22, when they host SUNY Canton at 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
