Bears volleyball downs Kean, MCLA

KEAN, N.J.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (13-8) rolled to two victories at the Kean University Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon. The Bears downed the host Cougars 3-1, and blanked the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 3-0.

Potsdam handled Kean (8-10) by scores of 25-14, 25-20, 18-25, and 25-19. Samantha Strader and Dakota Pruiss continued their hot streaks with a team-leading 13 kills each. Pruiss also registered four aces and five digs. Jessica Archinal finished with six kills and 10 digs and Anne Fildes added another six kills and five digs. Allison Metot posted five kills and Jenna Blujus totaled 38 assists, three aces and 13 digs.

The Bears made quick work of the Trailblazers (4-14) with set wins of 25-23, 25-9, and 25-17. Strader led the offense again with a team-high 11 kills. Pruiss had another five kills and four digs and Metot totaled four kills. Blujus added 23 more assists and newly returned Jillian Dye came off the bench to record nine digs.

“Everyone healthy got opportunities today and we got contributions from each of them,” said Potsdam Head Coach Steve Pike. “It was a total team effort.”

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they face St. Lawrence in Canton at 7 p.m. The Saints downed Potsdam 3-0 in the teams’ first meeting this season in Welsh Gymnasium on Sept. 13.
