Bear's Thayer named to softball All-SUNYAC team

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam junior softball player Ashley Thayer has been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference's second team for the 2013 season.

Thayer, a junior pitcher and designated player, played in all 32 of the Bears' games this season and made 30 starts. She hit .314 with 27 hits, 18 runs scored and eight RBI. On the mound, she posted a 5-8 record in 18 appearances with 13 starts. She struck out 58 in 76 innings pitched. She recorded two shutouts and seven complete games.

Thayer will graduate early this year. In her three seasons, she started 91 of the 94 games she played with a .282 average. She totaled 79 hits, 45 runs, 22 RBI and 25 stolen bases. Thayer was one of the top pitchers in Bears history. She was workhorse, throwing 298.2 innings and piling up a 17-30 mark in 58 games. She struck out 256 hitters and threw the first two no-hitters in Potsdam history.

The Bears completed the year with a 11-21 (2-16 SUNYAC) record.
