Bears swimming and diving split with the Saints

POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams split against St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon. The men pulled out the 145-142 win, while the women fell to the Saints 145-125.

Senior Dan Costa (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport), junior Chris Carlini (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell), junior Tyler Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and freshman Evan Abess (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) teamed up to take the win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.69. Costa got three solo victories for the men in the 100 backstroke (57.19), the 50 free (22.34) and the 200 backstroke (2:06.01).

Zapisek strung together two wins in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:11.33 and the 100 butterfly (53.94) and sophomore Ricky Blackburn (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) touched the wall first in the 100 free with a time of 50.69. Later, freshman Andrew Strazella (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), freshman Austin Wheeler (Perry, N.Y./Perry), Blackburn and Zapisek took the win in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:24.47.

Sophomore Jennifer Yeager (Greene, N.Y./Greene) led the women with two solo victories in the 200 free (2:06.46) and the 100 free with a time of 58.78. Senior Victoria Blakeslee (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) took the win in the 100 breaststroke and freshman Emily Gulitti (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) finished first in the 200 IM. Sophomore Kristin Canjuri (Wilton, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), senior Kallee Frego (Massena, N.Y./Massena), sophomore Kira Wood (Hopewell, N.Y./John Jay) and Blakeslee combined to take the 400 free relay with a time of 4:13.83. Freshman Darien Frederick (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Island) got the Bears another win in the one-meter dive with a score of 182.25.

The Bears will return to Maxcy Pool for their final home event this season to battle Clarkson University Friday at 4 p.m.
