Bears' swimming and diving split against Saint Michael's

POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams' split Saturday at Maxcy Hall with Saint Michael's College. The men swam past the Purple Knights with a score of 151-119, while the women fell 140-121.

Junior Ricky Blackburn (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led Potsdam with three solo victories in the win. He touched the wall first in the 200 Free (1:54.11), 50 Free (23.48) and the 100 Free (51.84). Three different swimmers finished with two wins. Senior Delvyne Santiago (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) grabbed the W in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:49.76 and the 500 Free (5:16.20). Fellow senior Clement York (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) finished first in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke with times of 1:03.90 and 2:25.46, respectively. Junior diver Tim Knapp (Newark, N.Y./Newark) got first in the one and three meters dives with scores of 166.80 and 151.72. Senior Tyler Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./Syracuse) and sophomore Jacob Van De Valk (Genoa, N.Y./Southern Cayuga) rounded out the winners with victories for Zapisek in the 200 Fly (2:08.88) and Van De Valk in the 100 Fly (57.62). Van De Valk, senior Chris Carlini (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell), Zapisek and Knapp teamed up to talk the win in the 200 Medley Relay with a finishing time of 1:43.26.

Junior Kira Wood (Hopewell, N.Y./John Jay) was the top swimmer on the women's side with wins in the 50 Free (26.79), 100 Free (58.83) and swam the last leg in the 400 Free Relay with sophomore Kristen Burr (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger), Marina Caramia (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and freshman Hallie Marquart (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) with a time of 4:16.74. Junior Jennifer Yeager (Greene, N.Y./Greene) finished first in the 200 Free (2:14.48). Sophomores Colleen Fraser (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), Darien Frederick (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) and Emily Gulitti (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) each brought home a win. Fraser grabbed the 200 Breaststroke (2:42.77), Gulitti grabbed the 200 IM (2:25.32) and Frederick got first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 156.00.

Potsdam will round out their regular season schedule Saturday when the Bears head to Oswego State to battle the Lakers at 1 p.m.­
