TITUSVILLE, FL – The SUNY Potsdam softball team earned two more victories in Florida Monday evening. The Bears defeated Rainy River College (MN) and Elgin College (IL) in a tough doubleheader.

In the first game, Potsdam shutdown Rainy River behind a solid pitching performance by junior Megan Johnson. The junior pitcher recorded five strikeouts in seven innings of play and only allowed one hit. Freshman Alexis Lerman sparked the Bears early with a single shot through the left gap to drive in junior Molly McCuin in the second inning. Senior Amanda Perry continued the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in junior Ashley Thayer. Lerman would continue her hot streak with another single to record her second RBI of the evening in the sixth.

Lerman finished two for three with two RBIs. McCuin added a two for three performance, crossing home plate twice.

In the second contest, the Bears downed Elgin under the lights, 7-2. The Spartans struck first in the second inning with a two run shot up the middle. Freshman Samantha Cohn answered in the bottom of the inning with a single to bring in McCuin. The freshman continued the momentum in the next inning with a single to left field to give Potsdam the 3-2 advantage. Lerman would add to the lead with a rip up the middle to drive in two more runs. Junior Brittany Thivierge capped off the Potsdam scoring in the fourth inning bringing in senior captain Heather Johnson.

Cohn concluded two for three with one run and two RBIs. Lerman followed suit with two RBIs of her own. Freshman Jordan Sarat went six innings on the mounds, recording two strikeouts and allowing five hits. Thayer came in to relieve the freshman in the final inning and finished with one strikeout.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow versus SUNY Purchase at 9 a.m. and Elgin College at 11 a.m.
