POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam softball team (8-18) blanked St. Lawrence University (15-12) 3-0 in game one of Monday's doubleheader, before falling 11-8 to the Saints in game two. In the opener, Bears junior pitcher Megan Johnson blanked SLU for the second time this season. In the finale, Saints senior pitcher Elizabeth McGinley helped herself to a victory, going 2-4 with four runs batted in. Potsdam senior Amanda Perry was 7-8 in the two contests with six RBI's.

Perry got Potsdam on the board in the bottom of the first in game one. After senior captain Heather Johnson walked, Perry launched a two-run bomb over the right-center field fence. Megan Johnson rolled along until the top of the fifth when the Saints loaded bases on an error and two hits with nobody out. Johnson then struck out the first hitter, got the second to pop up and ended the inning unscathed after a long fly out down the left field line. Perry led off the bottom of the sixth with double to right and junior third baseman Molly McCuin drove her in with a single up the middle to close the scoring at 3-0. Johnson retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

Johnson improved to 3-3 on the season with a five-hit shutout. She struck out two and walked just one. Perry finished the game 2-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored.

Saints sophomore pitcher Kyle Plimpton fell to 7-7 after allowing the three earned runs on four hits. Plimpton fanned 11 in her six innings. Junior outfielder Natasha Bell was 2-3 for St. Lawrence.

In game two, the Saints jumped out 1-0 in the top of the first on a hit and two errors. Perry continued her hot hitting with a two-out double in the bottom of the first. Freshman first baseman Katie Marsman followed Perry with an RBI single to tie the game. Saints junior outfielder Cailyn Welsh led off the second with a single and came around to score after a teammate was caught stealing. Megan Johnson put the Bears back in front with a two-run triple to right center field in the bottom of the second. Heather Johnson then drove in her sister on ground out to make it 4-2 Potsdam. St. Lawrence scored five runs on six hits in the top of the third to grab a 7-4 lead, but Potsdam answered with two in the bottom on RBI's from Marsman and sophomore outfielder Carissa Cornwell. The Saints added one in the sixth and then pulled away with three in the seventh. The final blow came on a two-run double off the bat of McGinley. Potsdam rallied for two runs in its final at-bat on a two-run bloop single from McCuin, but fell 11-8.

McGinley allowed six earned runs in 6.2 innings, while striking out four to improve to 8-6 on the season. Saints junior shortstop Leslie Stratton was 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Bears junior pitcher Ashley Thayer fell to 3-7 after being roughed up for five runs, four earned, in 2.2 innings. Freshman Carina Chirinko allowed six earned runs in the next 4.1. Perry was 4-4 with three runs scored and Marsman and McCuin each finished 2-4 with two RBI's.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host SUNY Canton for a twin bill starting at 3:30 p.m.
