POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam softball team (13-24) clubbed a program record 19 hits to defeat SUNY Canton (11-14) 13-5 on Friday afternoon. Bears junior shortstop Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) was 5-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI. She hit a three-run homer to dead center field and was a just triple away from the cycle. The performance gave her 117 hits for her career, tying her for first place on the program's all-time list with Dana Vollmuth '11.

Prior to the game, the teams played the final inning and a half of a contest suspended on April 12, with the Bears holding on for the 5-4 victory. The two wins matched the single season school record with 13.

In the second game of a doubleheader on that started 17 days ago, senior captain Katie Marsman (Wantagh, N.Y/Wyoming Seminary) put the Bears in front 1-0 in the top of the first with a single to right that scored sophomore left fielder Sami Hubinsky (South Glens Falls, N.Y./SUNY Adirondack). The Roos tied the contest with a run on a passed ball in their half of the first.

Potsdam regained the lead thanks to a two-run bomb from senior captain Alexis Lerman (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) with Hubinsky aboard in the top of the third. Two doubles knocked in three Canton runs in the bottom of the fourth and gave the Roos a 4-3 advantage. Marsman tripled in Hubinsky to tie the game in the top of the fifth. With the sun setting, Ott singled to drive in Falsion with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth. After Canton recorded the final out of the inning, the umpires suspended the game for darkness.

Today, freshman pitcher Alissa McCauley (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) polished off her complete-game victory by allowing a just walk in the final two innings. Marsman singled in the top of the seventh, but Potsdam didn't add to its lead.

McCauley improved to 3-5 after allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks. She struck out five. Canton senior pitcher Jordan Podkladek (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville) allowed four earned runs on nine hits and two walks.

The Bears got their bats going in their final home game of the season, scoring in every inning. Ott got thing started with a single to lead off the bottom of the first. Hubinsky drove her in with a single up the middle two batters later.

Freshman center fielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) reached with a two-out single in the bottom of the second and stole a base before Ott doubled to center field to make it 2-0.

The Roos capitalized on a two-out error in the top of the third as sophomore second baseman Kaleigh Foran (Fort Ann, N.Y./Fort Ann) drove in senior catcher Shannon Dowling with an infield single. Marsman knocked in Hubinsky with a single down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth. Lerman then drove in Marsman with a single to left center and it was 4-1 after three. Canton closed the gap to 4-3 with two runs on two singles in the top of the fourth.

An infield single down the third base line from sophomore catcher Lauren Brace (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) scored Ott to extend the lead back to two. However, the Kangaroos tied the game on a single in and an error in the top of the fifth.

The Bears broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Potsdam ended the contest with three more runs. Senior pinch hitter Lyndale Nephew (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Seton Catholic) and freshman pinch runner Sabrina Johnson (Colton, N.Y./Colton-Pierrepont) each scored on a flyball dropped in the outfield. With two outs, Brace laced a single to left to score junior pinch hitter Kolbi Lyon (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and give Potsdam the decisive 13-5 lead.

Senior Carina Chirinko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) received a no-decision after allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks in the first 3.1 innings. She struck out three.
