WILLIAMSPORT, PA.--The SUNY Potsdam softball team (3-5) defeated Penn College (6-8) in game one 4-2, before falling 3-0 in game two. The Wildcats drew blood early in the bottom of the first when third baseman Chelsea Gray singled to shortstop for pitcher Taylor Brooks and designated hitter Alyssa Gentile to come home.

The Bears did not get on the board until the top of the fifth. With two outs, Brace tripled to left center and scored junior center fielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and Hubinsky.

After seven innings, both teams were knotted at two and went into extras. In the top of the eighth, with one out and runners on the corners sophomore right fielder Lucy Condon (Kitchener, Ontario/St. David Catholic) singled to left field and brought in freshman second baseman Shelby Van Epps (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). Hubinsky followed Condon up with a single to center field and plated Falsion to give Potsdam a 4-2 lead.

Penn managed to get a couple runners on third in their last at-bats but could not get any of them to cross home and Potsdam won game one, 4-2.

Freshman pitcher Kayla Palmer (Chester, N.Y./Chester) started in the circle for the Bears and pitched 4.0 innings, struck out one, and allowed two runs on five hits. Junior pitcher Alissa McCauley (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) (1-2) came into relief and received her first win of the season, struck out six in 4.0 innings, and allowed three hits. In the second game of the day, neither team could things going, as they combined for only three hits through the first half of the game.

Penn was the first to strike in the bottom of the fourth. After a triple by Gray, Kristina Holland hit a single to center field bringing in Gray. Two batters later, Tiana McCormick hit a single and bring Holland home. Before the inning ended, the Wildcats got one more on the scoreboard after a wild pitch.

Entering the seventh, the Bears were down to their final chance. Brace got a single to shortstop, then advanced to second with Palmer working a walk. Neither player got closer to home and the Wildcats took game two, 3-0.
