OSWEGO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (11-6-1, 7-3-1 ECAC West) never trailed as they upset No. 8/9 Oswego State (14-4, 8-3-0) 2-1 on Friday afternoon. junior assistant captain Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy) and sophomore forward Jenna Patterson (Boissevain, Manitoba/Westman Wildcats) each scored for the Bears and freshman goaltender Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) made 24 saves for her seventh career win. The Bears have now won four in a row and are 6-1-1 in their last eight games.

From the outset, a contest that featured this week's ECAC West Goalie of the Week in the Lakers' Mariah Madrigal and Rookie of the Week in Pfeiffer, went pretty much as expected. Madrigal stopped all nine shots the came her way in the first period and Pfeiffer made six saves. Both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play. The contest was scoreless after 20 minutes.

Pfeiffer continued to stand tall in the second period. She stopped several odd-man rushes during the middle stanza. Oswego's best opportunity came with 7:20 left as Olivia Ellis broke free in the neutral zone and skated in on the right side. She fired a shot that went off the shoulder of Pfeiffer and then the post before deflecting harmlessly away. The Bears created strong chances in the final minute. Junior forward Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Team Detroit) was thwarted by Madrigal on a one-timer. With 10.8 seconds remaining, junior assistant captain Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy) scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season with an assist from senior captain Amanda Peterson (West Chazy, N.Y./Chazy Flyers). The Bears outshot the Lakers 7-6.

The Lakers entered the third period with their best energy of the game. At 4:17, the Bears were whistled for boarding and Oswego went on its third power play of the contest. Pfeiffer handled a few strong opportunities before the penalty was killed. Oswego finally tied the game at 10:59 as Jaquelin White jammed home a rebound to tie the score. Potsdam finally broke the pressure in the last four minutes. At the 16:01 mark, sophomore forward Jenna Patterson (Boissevain, Manitoba/Westman Wildcats) put the Bears back in front with assists from junior defenseman Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./HoneyBaked) and freshman defenseman Karina Villalobos (Woodhaven, Mich./Little Caesar's). Madrigal was pulled for an extra attacker with 48 seconds left, but the Bears closed out the win.

Madrigal made 19 saves on the day. Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Bears look to keep their momentum tomorrow afternoon when they host the Lakers at 3 p.m.
