The SUNY Potsdam softball team returned to the diamond on Easter Sunday and traveled to SUNY Oswego for a make-up doubleheader that had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The Bears (4-18 overall, 3-7 SUNYAC) lost 14-0 in game one in four and a half innings and followed with an 8-1 loss in game two.

In game one, Oswego struck with a six-run first inning and added two more runs in the second, three in the third and three additional runs in the fourth to gain the mercy rule.

Freshman Ashley Lyman batted 3-for-4 with a home run, a game-high six RBI and two runs scored while Melissa Mulvaney collected three hits and senior Deanna Apps went 2-for-4 and scored four times to lead the Lakers (8-15, 5-11 SUNYAC).

Senior catcher Brittany Thivierge (Schuylerville, N.Y. / Schuylerville) and sophomore pitcher Carina Chirinko (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) each collected one hit apiece for Potsdam. Freshman leadoff hitter Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton) drew a pair of walks. The Bears left five runners on base.

In game two, junior Alexandra McKay hit a pair of two-run home runs, sophomore Alexandria Connelly tossed six and two-third scoreless innings and senior Sammie Schroeter batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI to lead the Lakers past the Bears 8-1.

Ott hit 2-for-3 with a double, her sixth of the season, and also drew a walk.

Freshman Kelly Becker (Mahopac, N.Y. / Mahopac) also batted 2-for-3 with her first triple of the season.

Sophomore first baseman Katie Marsman (Wantagh, N.Y. / Wantagh) hit 1-for-4 with a RBI single that drove home sophomore second baseman Alexis Lerman (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Jamesville Dewitt) in the fifth inning.

Potsdam will continue its three-day road trip with a visit to SUNY Cortland for a doubleheader on Monday beginning at 12 p.m.
