POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam hockey players Adam Place and Trevor Cope were recognized by the State University of New York Athletic Conference for their play during the week ending Nov. 20. Place was named the conference’s Player of the Week and Cope was named the Rookie of the Week.
Place had seven points in the Bears’ sweep of Geneseo and Brockport over the weekend. Against the Ice Knights, the sophomore forward had two goals, including one on the power play, and an assist. The following night against the Golden Eagles, Place scored two goals in a span of 1:35, including the game-winner, and contributed two assists. He is currently Potsdam’s second-leading scorer with five goals and six assists for 11 points.
Cope had a six-point weekend for the Bears. He had a goal and an assist in the 7-3 win over Geneseo and a goal and three assists in Potsdam’s 5-3 victory against Brockport. The freshman forward has three goals and seven assists in seven games for Potsdam. Cope is the Bears’ fourth-leading scorer and leads all SUNYAC freshmen with 1.43 points-per-game.
Potsdam (4-3, 3-3 SUNYAC) is currently fourth in the SUNYAC standings after notching it’s first league weekend sweep and victory over Geneseo in nearly three years. The Bears are back in action Dec. 2-3 when they host SUNY Cortland and Oswego State. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
