POTSDAM, N.Y.--SUNY Cortland (6-3-2, 1-2-1 SUNYAC) scored three second half goals to down the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (7-3-1, 1-1-1) 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Andre Brown (Kingston, Jamaica/Smithtown West) scored twice for the Red Dragons.

Cortland struck just 3:06 into the contest. Defender Andrew Troisi (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) finished a cross from junior midfielder Daniel Friend (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) from the left side of the box. Potsdam nearly answered over four minutes later as senior captain Ben Firlit (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) hammered a cross from senior forward Stephen Auyer (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego). However, Red Dragon junior goalie Joe Brandofino (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) was in position to make the stop. The teams battled evenly for the rest of the half, but neither team was able to top their early chances and the score remained the same at the break.

The Bears got the first great chance of the second half. In the 57th minute, Brandofino robbed senior captain Alex Griffith (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) of the tying goal on a header attempt. Nearly 15 minutes later junior forward Nick Tata (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) set up classmate Tyler Kirschner (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) to give the Red Dragons a 2-0 advantage. At 74:33, Brown made it 3-0 with an assist from Troisi. Brown got his second less than five minutes later on helper from junior midfielder Matt Gordon (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) to close the scoring.

Bears senior goalie Jesse Kohler (Middletown, N.Y./Tompkins-Cortland C.C.) made four saves, while Brandofino stopped five shots for the shutout. The Cortland outshot Potsdam 20-11, but the Bears edged the Red Dragons 4-2 in corners.

The Potsdam Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2015, Dr. Christian Turner '05, Alisha Schaad-Waite '08 and Mark Nourse, were recognized at halftime of the contest.

The Bears look to bounce back next weekend when they head to New Paltz and Oneonta.
