POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (2-0) defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent (0-2) 3-1 in the final game of the 2017 Potsdam College Cup. In the early game, Plattsburgh State (2-0) defeated Baruch College (0-2) 3-1 to claim the Cup title. Junior midfielder Jorge Ferrer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger), senior midfielder Djavan Guy (New York, N.Y./Saint John's Prep) and sophomore defender Wilber Parada (Huntington Station, N.Y./Huntington) represented the Bears on the all-tournament team. Plattsburgh junior forward Chris Robertson (Thiells, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional) was named the Most Valuable Player.

Potsdam jumped on the Dolphins early and often in the day's finale. Senior defender Matthew Wagner (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) rang the crossbar to put the Bears up 1-0 at 12:31 with an assist from Guy. Just 1:03 later, Guy scored his second penalty-kick goal in as many days. At 33:22, sophomore forward Alejandro Callejas (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) set up sophomore midfielder Theodore Bruschini (Wilton, N.Y./South Glens Falls) for a 3-0 advantage. With just 41 seconds remaining, Bruschini picked up his own rebound and beat Mount Saint Vincent senior goalie Rich Diodati (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) for his third career goal.

The Dolphins finally got on the board in the 55th minute as junior midfielder Julius Tumukunde (Corona, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) streaked down the right side and beat Bears senior goalie Keagen Briggs (Peru, N.Y./Seton Catholic). Potsdam controlled the play for the rest of the contest, outshooting Mount Saint Vincent 7-2, and completed the 4-1 win.

Sophomore goalie Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) earned his sixth career victory with three saves in the first half. Briggs was in goal for the final 45 minutes. Diodati was tagged with the loss after allowing four goals and stopping six shots in the first half. Sophomore Padelis Astrinidis (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) handled all three shots that came his way in the second half.

The Bears outshot the Dolphins 20-8 and had seven corner kicks to Mount Saint Vincent's three.

Next, Potsdam heads down Route 11 for a 6 p.m. showdown at SUNY Canton on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Plattsburgh 3, Baruch 1

The Cardinals controlled the play for much of the game, but goalkeeping kept the game close early. Plattsburgh sophomore goalie Patrick Feeley (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) robbed Bearcats sophomore midfielder Shaiem Allah Morad (Mazar-i-Sharif/Frances Lewis) on a penalty kick at 5:30. Baruch took a 1-0 lead on a goal from sophomore forward Dortion Alipaj (Tirana, Albania/Qemal Stafa). The advantage lasted about seven minutes as Robertson scored his third of the tournament. Bearcats sophomore goalie Victor Torres (El Progreso, Honduras/Instituto San Jose) stonewalled Cardinals junior forward Alex Price (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) on a penalty kick at 30:08 and the score was still tied at the half.

Price broke the tie for good at 54:53 on a long pass from junior defender John LaTouche (Salisbury Mills, N.Y./Washingtonville). Nearly five minutes later, LaTouche set up Robertson's fourth marker of the season to close the scoring at 3-1.

Feeley stopped three shots for the win and Torres finished with 11 saves. Plattsburgh outshot Baruch 19-4 and had all 11 corner kicks of the contest.
