POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (6-5-1, 0-2-1 SUNYAC) rallied for a 1-1 tie with Oswego State (0-8-2, 0-2-1) on Saturday afternoon at Maxcy Turf Field. Junior forward Eduardo Figueroa (Rochester, N.Y/Dr. Freddie Thomas) scored the Bears' lone goal.

Potsdam created some offensive pressure early in the contest, but was unable to draw first blood. The Bears' best opportunity of the half came off the foot of sophomore midfielder Kyle Cronin (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta). Just over 23 minutes into the contest, Cronin banged a shot off the crossbar. Seconds later, Lakers senior forward Mike Naab (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) finished a pass from sophomore midfielder Patrick Sprague (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) for a 1-0 lead at 23:35. Potsdam outshot Oswego 6-3 in the first 45 minutes, but trailed 1-0 at the break.

The Bears ramped up the offense in the second half and the aggressive play paid off. At the 53:42 mark, Figueroa was brought down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. He then buried his shot in the left side of the net past diving Oswego freshman goalie Jon Runge (Cicero, N.Y./CNS) to tie the score. Potsdam continued to hover around the Laker goal after the score, but couldn't grab the lead in regulation.

In the first overtime, Naab notched the only shot, but it sailed harmlessly wide. In the second extra session tempers heated up resulting in an Oswego red card and a Potsdam yellow card. Neither team was able to get the decisive tally through 110 minutes.

Bears senior goalie Stefan Sloma (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) finished the contest with one save, while Runge stopped seven shots for Oswego. Potsdam outshot the Lakers 20-9 and had 10 corner kicks to Oswego's four.

Next, the Bears hit the road for a 4 p.m. contest with SUNY New Paltz on Friday, Oct. 11.
