MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (2-3) defeated Morrisville State (1-7) 9-5 on Saturday afternoon. Senior midfielder Eric Soderquist (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) and sophomore midfielder Josh Huiatt (Lisbon, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) each led the Bears with two goals and an assist. The three points moved Soderquist into a tie for ninth on the program's all-time scoring list with 133 points. Junior Zach Sheridan (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) matched a career-high with 18 saves for his second career win.

The play was balanced through the first 15 minutes, with Potsdam finishing with a 7-6 advantage in shots. It was the Mustangs getting on the board first with a goal from Nick Geswaldo at 10:40. Junior midfielder Gabe Carbone (Accord, N.Y./Rondout Valley) got the Bears even at 5:08 with his first collegiate goal. The goalies were sharp during the opening quarter as well. Sheridan stopped three Morrisville attempts and his counterpart Dan Sherlock made four saves.

Huiatt gave the Bears the lead at 10:41 with his personal best seventh goal of the season. Three minutes later, Soderquist set up sophomore attackman Nick Slate's (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugteries) team-leading eighth goal for a 3-1 lead. Geswaldo ended the drought at 5:37 with a man-up marker. Huiatt countered at 3:27 with his second of the contest to extend the lead back to two and Potsdam held the 4-2 advantage at the break.

Soderquist wasted no time getting the Bears going in the third quarter. He scored his sixth of the season at 14:03. Huiatt fed senior attackman Lukas Baildon (Berlin, Germany/JFKS Berlin) for a man-up goal and a 6-2 lead at 5:25. Geswaldo completed his hat trick with 47 seconds in the quarter. The contest could have been closer after 45 minutes, if not for another six saves from Sheridan. Sherlock stopped three Bears shots.

Soderquist scored at 13:21 with Rob Kunz '14 with 133 points. Junior long-stick midfielder Colby Chapman (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) made it a five-goal contest with 6:28 remaining. Zach Palin and Geswaldo made a final push with two goals in 1:11 to close the gap to 8-5 at 3:35. Sophomore attackman Tayte Murray (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) put the game away with his fifth of the season with 2:03 left and Sheridan slammed the door with seven more saves.

Sherlock finished with eight saves. Senior faceoff specialist Marc Leveroni (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had another strong performance with nine wins in the circle.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday when they host crosstown rival Clarkson University at 7 p.m. under the lights.
