CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team extended their season by clinching a playoff spot last Saturday. The fourth-seeded Bears' will travel to No. one seeded SUNY Cortland this Wednesday, May 1, to match up against the Red Dragons in the SUNYAC semifinals at 4 p.m.
Potsdam comes into the postseason with a 6-7 overall record and a 2-4 conference record. The Bears' offense is led by junior captain Rob Kunz who leads the team in assists (14) and total points (32). Kunz is supported by senior midfielder Derek Frost who leads the Bears in goals with 20. Anchoring the team on the defensive side of the ball is senior long stick midfielder Nick Peryea who leads the team in caused turnovers (21) and is third on the team in ground balls (27). In goal for the Bears senior captain Stefan Sloma has stepped up his game. He ranks second in the conference in both save percentage (.604) and saves (157). In addition, Sloma is fourth in the conference with a goals-against-average of 8.39.
Tickets for Wednesday's game are $5 for adults and $2 for senior Citizens (55+), non-Cortland college students (with valid ID), and youths ages 18 and under. All ticket sales will be made at the gate.
The teams last playoff meeting was the 2011 SUNYAC Championship.
