POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Geneseo (11-3, 5-2 SUNYAC) slipped by the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball (1-15, 1-8 SUNYAC) tonight at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium with a score of 89-70. Freshman guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) led the Bears with 17 points and three steals on the night. Junior guard Justin Ringen (Huntington, N.Y./Harborfields) ended his game with 33 points while going 7-8 from beyond the arch for the Knights.

Senior guard Joe Estramonte (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich Central) got an offensive rebound and hit the layup at the 17:34 mark to open the scoring. The teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the first half with neither team leading by no more than seven points. At 11:07, Onabor hit back-to-back-to-back threes to keep it a one-point game. The Knights pulled ahead in the last minute of the half to take the 38-31 lead into halftime.

Senior guard Mitch Lamerson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) ignited the Bears' offense right out of the gate with a 3-pointer and a layup. Freshman forward Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) followed it up with a dunk to tie the game at 38. Geneseo's junior guard John Decker (Lincolndale, N.Y./Somers) answered with a fast break layup to take the lead back and the Knights' never relinquished it again. Potsdam kept it a close game, but with less than eight minutes to go Geneseo started to pull away and came away with the 89-70 win.

The Knights edged the Bears 48-percent to 43-percent from the floor and outrebounded the Bears 39-34.

Estramonte finished with 14 points, four assists and five boards and Lamerson tacked on 11 points. Kane and sophomore forward Josh Blagrove (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) each scored 10 points, while Kane finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.

Decker finished shy of a double-double himself with 26 points and eight assists and sophomore guard Jack Eisenberg (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) led the Knights with eight boards.

Potsdam will hit the road Friday to take on SUNY Fredonia at 7:30 p.m.
