Bears' men's hoops can't slow Golden Eagles

POTSDAM, N.Y.- Big first half sends College at Brockport (9-6, 4-4 SUNYAC) past SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-14, 1-7 SUNYAC) Friday night at Jerry Welch Gymnasium. The Golden Knights scored 52 points in the first 20 minutes to take the 95-58 win over the Bears. Freshman guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) led Potsdam with 15 points and four rebounds, while sophomore guard Hamed Shamseldin (Lawrence, N.Y./Lawrence) and junior guard Clifton Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) each scored 14 points for Brockport.Potsdam got on the board first with a jumper from freshman guard Tyrone Adeyeye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker), but Brockport answered with an 11-3 run that was started by senior guard Ismael Pierre (Hempstead, N.Y./Hempstead) that lasted over the first five minutes of play. The Bears settled in following to run to keep up with the Golden Eagles, but at 8:19, Brockport's offense started to take control again with a 27-8 run to close out the first half. The Golden Eagles took the 52-24 lead into the locker room.

The last 20 minutes of play was full of fouls and chances at the free throw line for both teams while Brockport continued their to put points on the board, but Potsdam stayed right with them. At 7:28 mark, Adeyeye was fouled after a made layup and completed the three-point play to ignite a Bear 10-2 run. Then the Golden Eagles combined for a 12-4 run to close out the game and take the 95-58 victory.

Adeyeye tallied 11 points, while freshman guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) added seven points and five rebounds for Potsdam.

Junior guard Devonn Gavin (Rochester, N.Y./Wilson Magnet) finished with 12 points and fellow junior forward Levi Pace (Medina, N.Y./Medina) led both teams with eight boards.

Potsdam will host SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Jerry Welch Gymnasium.
