Bears coss country run at SUNYAC Championships

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's and women's cross country teams competed at the SUNYAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The Bears men finished ninth, while the women were 10th. SUNY Geneseo captured both the men's and women's titles.

The competition kicked off with the women's 6K. Junior Brittany Englert (New York Mills, N.Y./New York Mills) led the women's Bear pack with a time of 24:58. Senior Hannah Groshner Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) came in next with a time of 25:22, followed by freshman Marie Amell (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) at 26:45. Sophomore Catherine Varriano (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) ran a strong time of 27:24.3 and junior Keagan Anderson (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville Manlius) rounded off the Bears top five with a 28:15.

For the men, freshman Anthony Pelella (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) led the men in the 8K with a time of 26:53, followed by freshman John Weed (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) at 27:47. Senior Kevin Johnson (Camden, N.Y./Camden) came in strong with a time of 29:38. Sophomores Ben Shelton (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) and Anthony Perri (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) rounded off Potsdam's top five men with times of 30:18 and 30:31, respectively.

The runners will complete their season at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Qualifiers on November 14, hosted by SUNY Geneseo.
