FREDONIA, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (6-5, 2-3 SUNYAC) pulled away from SUNY Fredonia (2-9, 0-5 SUNYAC) in the middle of the second half to take the 82-74 victory Friday night. Sophomore guard Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens H.S. of Teaching) matched a career-high with 20 points to lead the Bears and added four steals and five rebounds. Ian Helps recorded a double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Helps and junior guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) started off the scoring for their respective teams in the opening minutes. After two free throws from Helps, Potsdam ignited for a 19-5 run at 15:47, which included points from junior guard Dante Langely (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville), Onabor and junior forward Sergine Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep). The run ended with two points from sophomore guard Jayquan Thomas (Hollis, N.Y./Richmond Hill) at 11:14. The Bears got out to their largest lead of the half, 14, at the 7:13 minute mark after a layup from junior guard Andrew Hoag (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls), but Fredonia climbed back with a lot of help from the foul line to tie the game at 42 heading into halftime.

The teams battled back and forth over the first six minutes of the second half. The score was tied for the second time at 14:33 after a made free throw from Helps. He hit the second to take the lead, but Delsol-Lowry knocked down a layup to take the lead back and the Bears would not relinquish the lead again. A 10-2 run got Potsdam out to a seven-point lead that was capped with another fast-break layup from Langley. See-saw play continued to close out the game with the Bears holding on for the 82-74 win.

Onabor and Langley finished with 15 points each with Onabor grabbing eight boards and Langley recording six. Sophomore guard Aaron Armstrong (Lisbon, N.Y./Madrid-Waddington) also had seven rebounds for the Bears.

Isiah Ice and Brian Barill each had 11 points for the Blue Devils, while Dante Williams tallied nine points and six boards.

Potsdam shot 45 percent from the floor, while Fredonia shot 36-percent.

The Bears are back tomorrow against Buffalo State at 3 p.m.
