CANTON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's and women's cross country teams each ran to eight place finishes at St. Lawrence University's Hoffman Invitational on Saturday morning. The host Saints won both the men's and women's competitions.
Freshman Sam Tavares (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fiorello LaGuardia) led the Bears women with a 6k time of 27:23. Junior Olivia Rehm (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) and sophomore Sarah LaPorta (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem East) were next with times of 29:03 and 29:17, respectively. Sophomore Miriam Cisse (Manhattan, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph) and junior Carissa Cuccia (Goshen, N.Y. / Goshen) rounded out Potsdam's top five with finishes of 30:47 and 31:06.
Freshman Ben Shelton (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) paced the Bear men with an 8k time of 30:08. Junior Kevin Johnson (Camden, N.Y./Camden) and freshman Devin FitzGerald (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) crossed the finish line in 31:02 and 32:12. In his Potsdam debut, freshman Anthony Perri (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) was next at 32:34 and freshman Christopher Cruz (Albany, N.Y./Albany) ran to a time of 33:15.
The Bears are back in action on Oct. 18, when they head to the Cross Country Only Championships hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
