Bears Cross Country competes at Cardinal Classic

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men's and women's cross country teams competed at SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic Invitational this morning. Both team finished fourth in their respective races. The Cardinals took the women's 5k race, while RPI took the win in the men's 5k race.

Junior Anthony Perrier (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) paced the men with a time of 16:08.8 for a sixth-place finish. Freshman Ngor Nyang (South Sudan/Henninger) finished with a time of 17:33.0, while freshman Joshua D'Angelo (Camden, N.Y./Camden) was close behind with a 17:39.8 time. Senior Alex Gregory (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) crossed the finish line at 18:11.9 with freshman Troi Wall (Sandy Creek, N.Y./Sandy Creek) 16 seconds behind him. Freshman Matthew Brown (18:38.7), sophomore Logan Drake (19:45.3) (Theresa, N.Y./Indian River) and freshman Joseph Soucia (21:17.5) (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) rounded out the Bears.

Freshman Lilly Cushman finished sixth in the women's 5k race with a time of 19:48.7 with fellow freshman Emily Downs (Olivebridge, N.Y./Onteora) behind her with a time of 20:20.7. Emelys Villareal finished with a time of 21:55.9 and senior Catherine Varriano (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) recorded a 22:24.9 time. Freshman Adriana Smith (Freedom, N.Y./Pioneer) crossed the finish line at 22:49.3 with fellow freshman Alice Menis finishing at 23:12.9. Freshman Kristen Alvy (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and fellow freshman Sarah Haller (Huntington, N.Y./Walk Whitman) rounded out Potsdam with times of 25:41.3 and 30:27.3, respectively.

The teams will host the Bears Invitational next Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.
