A goal with just 15 seconds remaining on the clock gave the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team a 8-7 win over Skidmore on Friday afternoon on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson moves to 9-1 overall on the season and has won both of its Liberty League games. Skidmore drops to 6-4 overall and is now 2-1 in conference. The 9-1 start for Clarkson ties the best start to a season in program history.

Clarkson jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the game. Kate Dillon tallied the first goal at 27:56 followed by Abby Collins scoring at 25:04. Dillon picked up an assist when she set up Taylor Collins for the third Golden Knight goal at 20:56.

Skidmore went on a run of its own to close the gap. Cas Szwajkowski scored off a feed from Kathleen Hanna at 19:25 to get the Thoroughbreds on the scoreboard. Lilla Seymour added a man-up goal at 5:32 with Amanda Orvis getting the assist. That was all the scoring in the first half as the two teams went into the break with Clarkson holding a slim 3-2 lead.

After the restart, Szwajkowski scored two free position goals at 22:24 and 21:57 to give Skidmore its first lead of the game. That was the first of four leads changes in the second half.

Clarkson struck back with a goal 57 seconds later to tie the game. It was Abby Collins who scored and Christina Pollard who provided the assist. The Green and Gold briefly regained the lead at 17:17 with Dillon scoring her second goal of the game off a pass from Jaid Baytos.

However, Skidmore tied the game at 12:26 on another Szwajkowski free position shot and then took its biggest lead of the game with goals at 12:06 and 10:51 by Natalie LaBeau and Hanna respectively.

As the clock wound down, Clarkson pushed forward to attempt a comeback. The Golden Knights got a lifeline at 3:20 when Baytos scored her first goal of the game. Clarkson finally tied the game with 1:46 remaining as Abby Collins grabbed another goal.

That set up the final minute heroics. Abby Collins controlled the draw to give Clarkson a chance to take the lead. It was Baytos who took advantage and scored the game-winning goal for the second straight game. This time, the goal came on a free position shot with only 15 seconds remaining to give Clarkson the lead. That margin stood as the winning one as Clarkson did not allow Skidmore to get off a potential game-tying shot.

Clarkson finished with a 26-21 edge in shots while Skidmore led 12-5 in draw controls. Samantha Gladd made 10 saves in net for Clarkson while Megan Kolopsky had six stops for Skidmore.

Abby Collins, Baytos, and Dillon had three points apiece for Clarkson with Collins scoring three goals and Baytos and Dillon scoring twice to go with an assist. Taylor Collins led the team in ground balls with five and caused turnovers with three.

Clarkson will be right back in action on Saturday as the Golden Knights host RPI at 3:00 pm on Hantz Turf Field.
