The St. Lawrence University alpine ski teams completed competition at the 2011 Colby Carnival on Saturday at Sugarloaf. Rookie Caroline Barry had the best Saint finish of the day in 17th position, while junior Scott Houser led the men's team in 27th place.
The St. Lawrence women's team closed with 68.0 points, good for sixth place overall. The men's squad earned 55.0 points, landing in eighth position. The University of Vermont women's and men's teams swept the slalom events with 141.0 and 131.0 points, respectively.
Barry posted a combined time of 1:29.98, landing in the top-20 for the second time and earning her best finish in her young collegiate career. She was joined in the scoring by junior Mackenzie Irwin and sophomore Ann West, who finished in 21st and 28th, respectively.
Rounding out the team's line-up in the slalom were senior Kelly Skinner (30th), junior Elena Rogers (33rd) and sophomore Ashley-Kate Durham (DNF 2nd).
Houser posted a combined time of 1:25.27 to earn 27th position on the men's side. First-year students Ben DeFlavio and Nick Scalia completed the Saints scoring, finishing back-to-back in 29th and 30th place.
St. Lawrence, which was once again without junior standout Jeremy Lawless, was also represented by senior Thatcher Jacques (32nd), junior Matt Dodge (43rd) and rookie Dustin Martin (45th).
UVM's Megan Ryley won the women's event with a time of 1:25.59, while Tim Kelley made it a complete sweep for the Catamounts by winning the men's race in 1:18.50, a mere .17 seconds ahead of UNH's Paul Atkinson.
The St. Lawrence alpine teams will have next weekend off before returning to competition at the 2011 UVM Carnival at Stowe on February 4.
