Ben Crawford led three players into double-figures scoring with his team-leading 14 points as the St. Lawrence University Men's Basketball team opened up a late lead and finished off a 67-54 victory over Vassar College Friday night in Burkman Gymnasium in Canton.

The Saints (5-4 overall, 1-0 Liberty League) went on a key 10-0 run in the closing minutes of the second half to open up a double-digit lead. Vassar (4-6, 0-1) had a chance to tie the game with 4:37 left in the game but missed a 3-pointer and Kyle Kobis answered with a three-point play on a driving layup and a free throw for the six-point swing that triggered the late run.

Chris Miner made a shot from in close and Kaleb Faison nailed a 3-pointer before Kyle Edwards capped the run with a layup to extend the Saint lead to 13 points at 61-48 with 2:15 to play.

In the first half, St. Lawrence used a run midway through the period to take a nine-point lead. Vassar held an 8-7 lead before a setries of layup by Edwards, Willie Zachery, Faison, Kieran Miller and Kobis made it a 17-8 Saints lead.

Vassar trimmed the lead and regained the advantage at 28-26 before the teams traded baskets and went into the halftime intermission tied at 31-31.

In the second half, St. Lawrence scored the first eight points and an Edwards layup with 13:24 to play gave the Saints a 10-point lead at 43-33. The Brewers chipped away at the lead over the next seven minutes before a 3-pointer cut the lead to three-points at 51-48 before the key Saints run.

Edwards finished with 12 points and Kobis added 10 for the Saints while Miller and Riley Naclerio each scored seven points. Naclerio led the Saints with seven rebounds and Edwards handed out a team-high five assists.

St. Lawrence will wrap up the first weekend of Liberty League play with a 4 pm game against Bard in Canton Saturday.
