Balanced attack downs Castleton with 13 Saints men's lax scoring goals

Conor Healey led the St. Lawrence University Men's Lacrosse team with four goals and was one of 13 players for the Saints to get into the scoring with a 22-3 victory over Castleton University Wednesday afternoon in a neutral site contest played at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Healey scored three times and assisted on a fourth goal in the first quarter as St. Lawrence (3-0) opened up an early 8-1 advantage. Jeremy Vautour added three goals as well in the first 15 minutes while Jon Fairbanks and Alec Dietsch added single goals for the Saints.

Andrew Jarrett and Charlie Duprey scored in the second quarter for St. Lawrence as both teams scored twice in the period and the Saints took a 10-3 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, the St. Lawrence offense added to the lead with another eight-goal period. Fairbanks scored his second of the game before Jamie Kuppel scored and Duprey added his second and third goals of the contest.

Healey scored again before Conor Brimley, Gabe Maxwell and Steven Peterson scored in a span of two minutes to push the Saints lead to 18-3 at the end of the third quarter.

David Jennings and Nick Brindisi scored early in the fourth quarter and Maxwell added his second of the game before Cal Hynson closed out the scoring for St. Lawrence.

Healey finished with four goals and two assists for six points while Fairbanks (2 goals, 2 assists) and Vautour (3 goals, 1 assist) had four points each. Duprey had three points with three goals and Maxwell also had three points with a pair of goals and one assist.

Jack Roberts and Malcolm Lynch led the defensive effort with each recording four ground balss and two caused turnovers. Dietsch won four face offs and Joe Stacey added six face off victories.

Ryan Fisher started the game in the St. Lawrence goal and picked up his third win of the season with four saves in the first half. Patrick Sullivan played a quarter and made two saves, Matty Corbelle added four saves in 10 minutes and Tom Shafer played the final five minutes of the game but did not have to make a save.

St. Lawrence will travel to Vermont for another non-conference game against Middlebury Tuesday before the team heads to Florida for a pair of games against Western New England and Salve Regina.
