The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team dropped an ECAC Hockey contest to Quinnipiac University on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena by the score of 3-2. The Bobcats were led by sophomore standout Kelly Babstock, who scored one goal and assisted on the two others for the visitors.

The win moves Quinnipiac to 5-6-1 (4-1-1), while St. Lawrence falls to 5-4-3 (2-3-1).

The game was evenly played throughout, as both teams finished with 25 shots on goal. However, the Bobcats used three goals in a span of 7:31 midway through the first period and got solid goaltending from Victoria Vigilanti to protect the 3-2 win.

The Saints cracked the scoreboard first at 5:58 of the first period while skating 4-on-3. Captain Karell Emard found junior Kelly Sabatine inside the blue line, and the Hamilton, ON native used several slick moves to avoid defenders and beat Vigilanti stick-side for her fifth goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.

Quinnipiac would rebound nicely though, tying the game with a power play tally at 11:04. Babstock earned the assist as she found Breann Frykas, who beat St. Lawrence goalie Carmen MacDonald for her second goal of the year. Only 3:07 later, Babstock was celebrating her sixth goal of the season, as she rocketed a shot behind MacDonald for the 2-1 lead, with assists going to Melissa Perry and Amanda Colin.

The momentum continued for the visitors at 18:35, when Babstock sent a cross-ice pass through the slot to a wide-open Megan Hagg. Hagg's one-timer beat MacDonald inside the near post for her first career goal and a 3-1 advantage. Nicole Kosta also assisted on the third goal for Quinnipiac.

St. Lawrence would respond with an excellent second period, outshooting their opponents 9-6 and scoring the only goal of the frame. While skating on a power play, senior Alley Bero cycled the puck to the blue line to junior Brooke Fernandez, who blasted a low slap shot from the point through traffic and past Vigilanti for her fourth goal of the year. Both Bero and sophomore Rylee Smith had helpers on the goal that made it 3-2 at 16:42 of the second.

Fernandez would nearly tie the game on another slap shot in the final minute, as Vigilanti never saw the puck and it went over her shoulder but bounced off the cross bar to keep the Bobcat lead intact heading to the final frame.

Needing a strong showing in the third to prevent a St. Lawrence comeback, Quinnipiac owned a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal and used a persistent fore-check to keep the Scarlet and Brown's offense bottled up. Though the Saints had a few chances, Vigilanti was up to the task and anchored her team to a 3-2 victory.

St. Lawrence finished 2-of-6 on the power play, while Quinnipiac was 1-for-6. MacDonald falls to 2-3-2 after making 22 stops while Vigilanti improves to 5-5-1 behind the 23-save showing.

The Saints will be in action again next weekend, Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, when they hit the road to take on Dartmouth and Harvard.
