Taylor Armijo was 4-for-7 with two doubles and two RBI, but the St. Lawrence University softball team was swept by Grinnell and D'Youville, 7-1 and 9-5, on Friday afternoon on the Saints' final day in Clermont, Florida.

Darice Wheeler powered Grinnell to victory in the Saints' first game of the day, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBI. Her two-run shot over the right field fence gave the Pioneers their first lead, and it was an advantage that Grinnell never surrendered. She added a two-run double in the second inning to push the lead to 6-0, and Mya Davis hit a solo home run in the third to give Grinnell a 7-0 advantage.

Armijo's seventh double of the season — which hit high off the wall in left center — produced the Saints' only run. Deanna Sullivan, Skylar Hein, Allie Courtwright and Angelina Carney also had hits for St. Lawrence.

Andi Leff was 2-for-2, and Leila Bishop-Parise was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Pioneers, who improved to 5-3.

Melissa Anderson allowed just five hits in a complete-game effort to earn the win for Grinnell, allowing just one run and three walks with two strikeouts. Madison Mitchell took the loss for the Saints, allowing six runs (two earned) in 1.2 innings on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Courtwright made her first appearance of the season in relief, allowing one run on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

D'Youville's Jackie Langer ignited the Spartans' offense in the second game of the day, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

The Saints fell into a 3-0 hole in the top of the first inning, but cut the lead to one run on three occasions. Armijo's eighth double of the year plated St. Lawrence's first run in the bottom half of the first, and she later scored on a single by Hein.

The Spartans (2-2) added a run on an RBI single by Langer in the second, but Elle Gray smacked a single into right center to score Meryl Adams from third to cut the lead to 4-3.

It was the same scenario in the fourth inning, as D'Youville tacked on a run with an infield single, but Carney cut the lead to 5-4 with a home run over the center field wall in the bottom half of the frame.

The Spartans, however, pulled away in the sixth, scoring four unearned runs, including two on a home run by Langer, to take a 9-5 lead. Gray scored on a sacrifice fly by Caitlin Syphurs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Saints would get no closer.

Ashley Carney went 2-for-3 for D'Youville, and Brittaney Goodrich threw a complete game for the win, allowing five runs on 12 hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Armijo was 3-for-4, while Deanna Sullivan was 2-for-3 and Gray and Hein were both 2-for-4.

Caroline Young took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in two innings. Courtwright threw 3.1 innings in relief, allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits with one strikeout, while Mitchell struck out three and allowed one hit in 1.2 innings.

The Saints finish their Spring Break trip with a 6-6 record and will hope to resume their season with their home opener on Tuesday, April 3 vs. SUNY Potsdam, weather permitting.
