Canton, NY – Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season but visiting Utica College used three unanswered scores to earn a 3-1 victory on Tuesday evening at the Roos House.

The Roos got on the board first just 3:28 in as Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville ON) skated behind the net and hit Ardoin with a perfect pass in the slot. Ardoin put a shot high off Pioneer netminder Keira Goin and into the back of the net for the early lead.

Utica responded just over three minutes later when Taylor Osowski picked up a loose puck between the circles in front of net and beat SUNY Canton goaltender Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) past the stick side to knot the game at one. Victoria Pelton and Emily Coope were credited with assists on the play.

With 3:30 remaining in the opening period the Pioneers took their first lead of the game as Louise Steele-Norton redirected a Nicole Kieffer shot from the point just inside the left post. Morgan Reed also picked up a helper on the play.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period as the Roos remained with one goal after 60 minutes of play. Coope made it 3-1 at the 6:40 mark of the third period off a defensive zone giveaway by the Roos. Osowski and Pelton were credited with assists on the score.

DiNardo stopped 29 shots for the Roos, while Goin made 15 saves for the Pioneers. The two teams combined to go 0-for-8 with the skater advantage, while SUNY Canton held a slim 31-28 edge in faceoffs.

The women's ice hockey team continues its three game home stand with a weekend set beginning on Friday at 4:00 p.m. against Chatham.
