Senior Jack Whelan tied for 10th in a 74-player field as St. Lawrence University's men's golf team finished seventh among 15 teams at the 2014 Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic hosted by McDaniel College at the Bridges in Abbottstown, PA Saturday and Sunday.
The Saints shot rounds of 317 and 322 to finish at 639 in the tournament which was won by Franklin and Marshall with a 612 total.
Whelan shot 77 in the opening round and 78 in round two for an 11-over 155 total in the final tournament of the fall season for the Saints. It was the first time this fall that Whelan was not in the top two of a tournament, and his fifth straight top ten.
Colin Dowd was the second Saint finisher in the tournament, tied for 24rd with rounds of 78 and 71 for a 159 total, while Jack Reardon shot 81-82 for a 163 finish, tied for 39th and Jack Danforth and Brady Garrett each totaled 165 to tie for 52nd, Danforth with an 84 on Saturday and 81 on Sunday and Garrett with 81 on Saturday and 84 on Sunday.
