CANTON -- Snowy shoulders on the course and a temperature of -16 was not enough to keep 79 die-hard runners from coming out to the third race of the 37th annual Frozen Foote Series.

Blue skies and snow-covered branches greeted the crowd of bundled-up runners and walkers.

First to finish was Matt Pierce, with a time of 21:58. In second was Jacob Malcomb in 22:57 followed by John Weed in 23:53.

Victoria Lederer was the first woman to finish, completing the course in 27:02. Sue Pierce placed second in 35:21 and Lyn Short was third in 35:36.

The fourth and final race of this winter is set for Saturday, March 12 at St. Lawrence University.

The races are held regardless of weather conditions, starting at 10:30 a.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of Appleton Arena, Miner Street. at SLU.

Registration fees are $2 for the last race.

At this race, Frozen Foote long-sleeved t-shirts will be awarded to the runners and walkers who completed three or more of the four races this season.

The out-and-back course on the rolling hills of Miner Street Road starts and finishes in the Appleton Arena parking lot.
