The nationally-ranked #4 St. Lawrence University men's squash team earned an 8-1 victory over #17 Williams College on Saturday during a match at Middlebury College. The Saints, who won six of the nine matches by 3-0 scores, improve to 5-0 on the season and will battle #21 Bowdoin and #18 Middlebury at 10am and 1pm tomorrow, respectively.
Williams falls 3-7 on the season and claimed its lone point from Kevin Chen, who battled back from being down 2-0 to defeat Ibrahim Khan, 3-2 (7-11, 5-11. 11-8, 11-2, 11-7).
First-year student Moustafa Bayoumy led the way for the Saints in the top spot, defeating Christopher Wilkinson, 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-8). Senior co-captain Vir Seth topped Taylor Foehl 3-0 in the third spot (11-4, 11-6, 11-5).
Juniors Kyle Ogilvy, Anderson Good and Chris Fernandez earned wins in the middle of the lineup. At four, Ogilvy split games with Michael Petrick early on, before prevailing 3-1 (11-5, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8). Good worked past Andrew Maruca, 3-0, in the fifth spot (11-9, 11-6, 11-2), while Fernandez beat Galen Squiers 3-0 in the sixth spot (12-10, 11-5, 11-5).
First-year student Mateo Vargas, senior Will Campo, and and sophomore Tim Lasusa rounded out the Saints scoring in the bottom of the lineup, while sophomore Ness Billimoria earned a 3-1 victory over John Shuck in the exhibition match (12-10, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9).
At seven, Vargas battled Addington Graham, earning a 3-1 victory (11-3, 12-10, 6-11, 11-7). Campo steadily worked past Tyler Conroy in the eighth spot, 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-7), while Lasusa blanked Varun Sharma at nine, 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-5).
