CANTON -- Three first-half goals helped the St. Lawrence women's soccer team shutout Colby-Sawyer and win the 2014 North Country Classic.

The Saints, who extended their non-conference unbeaten streak to 12 games, did not allow a goal all weekend.

"It was certainly a great start to the year for us," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "While we discussed many aspects of our game that needed improvement from yesterday to today, I thought we moved the ball much better, defended better as a unit and created quality chances. While there is still so much room for improvement, our hope is that we can carry this momentum into next weekend."

Junior Mimi Coppinger was the first to cash in on those chances in the 16th minute when she redirected a cross from senior Mackenize Collins behind Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Karley Hamilton for her first goal of the season to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead.

First-year player Kaleigh White increased the Saints lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute when she used her speed to beat Hamilton to a 50-50 ball at the top of the box. The Chargers keeper came off her line to challenge White who was on a break, but even though she initially got a piece of the ball, White managed to touch the ball around her and easily notched her first collegiate goal.

Less than five minutes later, fellow first-year Katie Stames added the third St. Lawrence goal and her second of the young season off a set piece. Junior Caroline Crandall sent the kick into the middle of the box where it ricocheted off a Colby-Sawyer defender onto the foot of Stames who touched it passed Hamilton to finish the scoring.

Stames, Taylor Goldsborough, Adriana Morra and Emily DePoy were named to the All-Tournament team. Goldsborough set up the Saints only goal on Friday, while Morra anchored the Saints back line in the shutouts. DePoy was a fixture in the midfield, aiding the Saints in transition throughout the weekend.

Next up for the Saints is a tournament in Springfield, Mass. They'll open the weekend with a 6 p.m. contest against Roger Williams on Friday, Sept. 5.
