CANTON--The SUNY Canton athletic department hosted the 9th Annual Kangaroos Golf Classic on August 21 at Partridge Run Golf and Country Club and a full field of 144 golfers participated in this year’s event.
The tournament is the athletic department’s largest fundraiser and all the proceeds go directly towards SUNY Canton student-athletes and their programs.
“Once again the tournament was very successful,” said athletic director Randy Sieminski. “Our staff did a tremendous job organizing and running the event and everyone had a terrific time. We have definitely established one of the better tournaments in the area and that’s evident by how quickly we fill up each year”.
The athletic department would like to thank all of the business and organizations that helped make the day possible through sponsorships and donations and especially Kevin Maginn and his staff at Partridge Run Golf and Country Club and Dennis Walsh and his staff at Mulligans restaurant. The corporate sponsors were the St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union and Victory Promotions.
The tournament format was a four-man captain and crew and teams were placed into one of four flights based on team handicaps. Rounds of golf for four to courses around the North Country were awarded to the top three teams in each flight. Those winners were:
Flight 1: 1st place (Team Keniston), 2nd place (Team Don), 3rd place (Team C. Smith). Flight 2: 1st place (Team Furnia), 2nd place (Team ONeil), 3rd place (Team T. Smith). Flight 3: 1st place (Team Robert), 2nd place (Team R. Para), 3rd place (Team J. Bracy). Flight 4: 1st place (Team Sawyer), 2nd place (Team Kench), 3rd place (Team Rice).
There were also numerous contests throughout the tournament such as Par 3 Poker, longest and straightest drives, a shootout for cash, closest to the pin contests, and two putting contests, one for $5,000 and one for $500. Those winners were:
