CANTON -- The next chapter in the nearly 90-year history of St. Lawrence University vs. Clarkson University hockey matchups will be written Friday night at Appleton Arena.
The Saints (6-3-1 overall this season so far) and the Knights (5-2-1) will be meeting for the 200th time since the rivalry began Feb. 13, 1926 in Potsdam, and Clarkson has a commanding lead in the series, 121-67-11.
Last year, in regular season and post-season play, St. Lawrence prevailed, 2-1-1.
The two teams meet again later this season, when the Knights host the Skating Saints at Cheel Arena Jan. 12.
While it’s still early in the season, U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO.com) ranks SLU 15th, tied with Bowling Green with 274 poll points, and Clarkson 19th with 153. Providence, at 6-0-1, is at the top of the poll, and Boston College, 8-1-0, ranks second.
Neither the Friars nor the Eagles will meet with either North Country team this season before playoffs.
