The nationally-ranked #18 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team played Plattsburgh State to a 0-0 tie in a non-conference game at the Field House Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.
The Saints, who move to 12-2-2 on the season, maintained possession for much of the first half, but the first solid scoring opportunity came from Plattsburgh State (16-2-1) when Matt Hamilton's shot at the 31:00 mark hit the left post.
Sophomore Jamal Samaroo almost put the Saints on the board with 18 minutes left in the second half when he hit a hard shot off the crossbar that dropped just in front of the goal line. Sophomore Mark Provost picked up the rebound but Plattsburgh's goalkeeper Andy Heighington made the save on Provost's shot to keep the game scoreless.
Senior Brian Gilloran's bid in the 98th minute was stopped by a diving Heighington which sent the game into the extra sessions.
The Saints held a 10-3 advantage in shots while Plattsburgh had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
St. Lawrence will conclude its regular season on Saturday against Clarkson at Sandy MacAllaster Field. The Saints can clinch a spot in the Liberty League Tournament with a victory over the Golden Knights.
