The St. Lawrence University women's crew team, nationally ranked No. 13, knocked off No. 9 Hamilton College in two of three events on the weekend, including the varsity 8+ event to retain the Newell Cup.
The varsity 8+ negotiated the 2000 meter course in 6:27.8, almost five seconds faster than Hamilton who finished in 6:33.6.
In the second varsity event, the Saints finished in 6:40.0 but were edged out by the Continentals, who took gold with a time of 6:38.8.
Though times were not taken in the Novice 8/3rd Varsity event, St. Lawrence's 3V finished :02.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton's novice 8+.
The Saints will be back in action on April 28th at the Liberty League Championships held in Saratoga Springs, NY.
