Sophomore forward Dani DeGregory scored one goal and assisted on two others as nationally 12th ranked Skidmore College won its seventh straight field hockey game with a 3-1 victory at St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in Liberty League play while the Saints are now 2-6 and 0-1 after the loss in their conference opener.

Skidmore dominated the game statistically in the second half and broke a 1-1 tie with goals just over five minutes apart. The Thoroughbreds outshot the Saints 21-6 in the second half and 33-12 overall, but Saint senior goalie Nicole Matos had a huge game with 18 saves and got plenty of help from her defense to keep the Saints in contention.

Senior forward Kelly Blackhurst scored her 12th goal of the year with a redirection inside the post off a penalty corner with DeGregory assisting for the game's first goal 21:34 into play, but Matos came up big several times in the final 14 minutes of the half and received a defensive save from Carly Dziekan, who knocked a looping shot out of the air right on the goal line on a Skidmore penalty corner.

The Saints tied the game with 2:14 to go in the half as sophomore Lizzy Saward scored her third of the season, taking a pass from Kate Higgins on the right side of the Skidmore goal and sliding the shot past goalkeeper Haley McDougall from right in front.

McDougall, who challenged the Saint shooters throughout the game, finished with four saves and did not allow another goal. DeGregory scored the game winner 3:22 into the second half as she collected her own rebound after a Matos save and put the ball inside the far post for her eighth of the year and junior Melanie Webb added an insurance goal 5:04 later, as Skidmore turned things around after a defensive stop and DeGregory fed Webb for her fifth goal of the season at 43:26.

Skidmore finished with 14 penalty corners to six for the Saints and the Saints had a pair of defensive saves to go with Matos' 18 saves in goal.

The Saints return to action with a Liberty League game at RPI on Oct. 5 while Skidmore plays at Middlebury in a battle of nationally ranked powers on Oct. 1.
