Three St. Lawrence County residents were honored Thursday an annual “Veterans Hall of Fame” ceremony hosted by at Sen. Patty Ritchie (R-Heuvelton) which took place at the U.S. Army Reserve Center near Fort Drum.
With the nation celebrating National Military Appreciation Month, Sen. Ritchie honored 16 veterans from throughout Central and Northern New York.
“There are people we paid tribute to today, who fought in some of history’s most dangerous battles, including, the Invasion of Normandy, Iwo Jima and the Battle of the Bulge, as well as more recent conflicts in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan,” Ritchie said.
The following St. Lawrence County veterans were honored by Senator Ritchie at Thursday’s ceremony: Dalton Foster, Joseph McCarthy and Michael Edward McCarthy.
“These are moments in our history that movies are made about and that bestselling novels are based on. The remarkable thing is, these American heroes lived it. I couldn’t be more humbled to recognize them for the tremendous sacrifices they have made on behalf of this great nation.”
Veterans were nominated for induction into the Veterans Hall of Fame by family, friends, co-workers and comrades-in-arms for their military service to our nation, and their continuing work and involvement in causes that benefit and improve our local communities.
